10 of the best Mother’s Day treats

This year Mother’s Day falls on Sunday 31st March – you can thank us later for reminding you! So whether you are looking to treat your own mum, or drop hints on the rest of the family as to what you deserve yourself, then look no further as our Mother’s Day gift guide has all of the inspiration that you could possibly need… Breakfast in bed anyone?

1) Say it with flowers

Buying your lovely mum a bouquet of flowers is one of the most traditional and, perhaps, still the best way of showing her that you care. There is a huge selection of flowers out there, from expensive floral displays to a pretty bunch that have been picked straight from your garden. Most people however tend to plump for something in between these two extremes, and there are numerous florists throughout North Wales that can cater for your precise requirements. Award-winning florists Luna Flower in Rhos-on-Sea, for example, is more than happy to design you a custom bouquet for mum.

2) Have a day out

You can’t beat an afternoon pottering about with your mum. Rhug Estate has a wide variety of unique gifts and handmade cards available in its farm shop, while its Bistro is the perfect location to spoil the most important woman in your life. Rhug will have a special Mother’s Day menu available in its Bistro on Mothering Sunday, which will be served from 11.30am until 5pm. Booking isn’t essential on the Sunday, but all those who do book in advance will receive a free glass of Prosecco with their meal! However, if your mum doesn’t want all the bells and whistles this year, then the Rhug afternoon tea is available for those who pre-book from 2pm on Saturday 30th March.

3) Get brownie points!

If you really want to get in your mum’s good books this year, then give her the gift of a decent tan! Shoned Owen (a mum herself of two beautiful girls) from Pwllheli decided to look into developing her own signature tan after becoming disillusioned with what was available in the tanning industry at the time. She began to explore the formulation of sunless tanning in 2013 and, determined to remove all the barriers that were normally associated with fake tanning, her focus came to reality in the creation of Tanya Whitebits – a fast-drying quality, non-sticky and odour free formula. Tanya Whitebits is vegan friendly, cruelty, paraben and alcohol free and all products contain natural and organic ingredients.

4) Have a coffee (with pic)

Who doesn’t like sitting down and having a decent coffee and a good chat with their mum? Well now you can do that right at home with ethically sourced Carissa coffee. With their own organic farming roots, the team at Carissa

take great care in sourcing from organic accredited and environmentally friendly sources and ensure that fellow organic farmers are paid a fair price for their produce. Our favourite is their medium roast blend of the finest Arabica beans from Central America, Ethiopia and Sumatra. With smooth chocolate tones and a sweet caramel syrupy mouthfeel, the blend is complimented by a light citrus acidity, plum and a long smooth finish.

5) Get everyone together

Make Mother’s day a truly special occasion by treating mum to an unforgettable experience at Château Rhianfa. It’s the perfect opportunity to bring the family together, as you show mum how much she’s loved by everyone that matters.

This fabulous Anglesey Château has a couple of options available for Mothering Sunday, from a full Sunday lunch that includes a three-course meal, coffee with chocolates and a gift for all of the mums, to a full afternoon tea (also with a gift) that is sure to be the toast of the town…

6) Show some sparkle

Nothing says I love you like gold jewellery‎ – even more so if it’s Welsh gold! The only set back is that splashing out on a sparkly set of jewellery might seem rather excessive for Mother’s Day… Here’s where North Walian brand Clogau can help. To be in with a chance of winning a beautiful Clogau Wildflower pendant and earrings set worth £900, simply place an order online at www.clogau.co.uk during the month of March and you will be automatically entered into the prize draw. Alternatively, you can enter online by going to www.clogau.co.uk/mothersday

7) Go for a stroll

At the end of the day, all that your mum really wants for Mother’s Day is to spend time with you. Betws-y-Coed is the perfect place to spend some quality time together, with a short forest walk to the famous waterfall which runs through the magical Fairy Glen gorge bound to hit the spot. After you have stretched your legs (and put the world to rights) you can indulge in a scrumptious afternoon tea at the Conwy Falls Café. A delicious spread of cakes, scones and sandwiches accompanied by tea, coffee – or even gin or Prosecco – awaits her on her special day! And, if you mention “MUM2019” you will receive 10% off an afternoon tea at the café on Mothers Day.

8) Indulge in a sweet treat

Let’s face it – chocolate is perhaps the most reliable Mother’s Day gift of them all! But that doesn’t mean than you can get away with a bar of Daily Milk – the thought is just as important as the treat itself. The Denbigh Chocolate Shop is Wales’ most fabulous chocolate, treats and coffee shop, and Annie and her team invite you to try their amazing cakes, coffees, hot chocolate, tea and light lunches deep in the heart of the Vale of Clwyd. And, once you have had your fill, you can leave with some rather special chocolate to enjoy together later – choose from chocolate Welsh dragons, chocolate love spoons and even chocolate pizzas.

9) Pamper yourselves

Why not treat your mum to a spot of pampering? And, if you’re sensible, you can treat yourself at the same time! For just £130 for two people, The Spa at Tre-Ysgawen Hall is offering a half-day pamper package to celebrate Mother’s Day. You will both receive an arrival drink, full use of the spa facilities (including the thermal suite), 45 minutes of Guinot Kiwi body scrub and lunch served with a glass of Prosecco. Tempting!

10) Enjoy afternoon tea

Snowdonia Nurseries in Glan Conwy has the ultimate afternoon tea available to enjoy this Mothering Sunday. They will be offering a special Prosecco Afternoon Tea during Mother’s Day weekend in their newly refurbished coffee rooms for just £19.95 for two – and you can plan your gardens at the same time!
