A talented young artist at Rydal Penrhos will have his work showcased at a prestigious exhibition.

Angus Holland, a Year 4 pupil at Rydal Penrhos Prep School, has had a piece of his work selected for the Royal Academy of Arts Young Artists’ Summer Show.

This particular piece, entitled Ducks in The Pond, was drawn when Angus was in Year 3 and it will now be showcased in a special online exhibition due to social distancing measures surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.

The exhibition will be officially published on July 12 and will stay online indefinitely.

Angus, said: “This piece was inspired by Colin See Payton. We were studying him in Year 3, and I really love his work.

“I like how he uses black ink, because I use black ink and fine liners. I also love the detail in his work.

“One of his works was ducks and fish and I really liked that, so that inspired me to create this piece of work.

“I used black ink on paper, and it took me about three weeks to complete.”

The pupil is currently spending up to 12 hours a day drawing during the lockdown, and this is the latest incredible achievement in an artistic setting from the pupil.

Angus managed to catch the eye of those selecting for the exhibition, which saw 17,000 entries from young hopefuls across the country.

The pupil’s mother, Rajeena Holland, thanked art teacher Suzy Morris, adding: “She has been fabulous, and Gus has come on so much under her tutelage.”

The Young Artists’ Summer Show is an opportunity for young artists aged 5 – 19 years to exhibit their work online and on-site at the Royal Academy.

Details of where to find the exhibition will be revealed in due course. Anyone wishing to view some Angus’ work can do so on his Instagram account @ArtyAngus.
