Wrexham Glyndwr University Unveils Latest Degree Apprenticeships

Fresh degree apprenticeships have been unveiled by Wrexham Glyndwr University – meeting the Welsh demand for key skills such as engineering and cyber security.

The university secured its first round of funding for Degree Apprenticeships in Digital in May 2019 and now, in partnership with NPTC Group of colleges, has secured further Welsh Government funding which will help launch a series of engineering qualifications.

The additional funding  will mean new groups of apprentices will start their studies at the university from September 2019.

Wrexham Glyndwr University, alongside the NPTC group of colleges, will be able to offer additional places on both Cyber Security and Software Engineering programmes as well as places on a series of new programmes designed to meet industry needs in Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing.

The new engineering programmes, like their  digital counterparts, have been designed alongside key employers across North and Mid Wales to provide future-proofed qualifications that meet the skills requirements of the 21st century.

They include a BEng in Production Engineering, a BEng in Industrial Engineering Design (Mechanical) and a BEng in Industrial Engineering Design (Electrical).

Christina Blakey, Business Development Manager and lead for Apprenticeships at Wrexham Glyndwr University, said: “The awarding of this funding is great news for North and Mid Wales, enabling both providers to expand our degree apprenticeship programs to include engineering – as well as widen opportunities for the next group of Digital Apprentices.

“We’ve had great support and engagement from many organisations across North and Mid Wales which has been instrumental in us securing this funding.”

Wrexham Glyndwr University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maria Hinfelaar, added: “As a university, we are committed to working with employers across our region to provide our students with the skills their modern workforces need.

“This latest announcement is a further demonstration of that commitment.

“They will be our second range of Degree Apprenticeships this year and will help our industries provide their workforce with the skills they need – boosting our economy and strengthening our region.”

Fully funded places are limited.  For more information or to speak to one of the team email enterprise@glyndwr.ac.uk
