Wrexham Glyndwr University’s Student Funding And Money Advice Team Help Secure National Award

The Student Funding and Money Advice team at Wrexham Glyndwr University are celebrating – after their work across Wales helped secure an industry award.

The team – made up of Senior Adviser Beryl Dixon and Student Advisers Emma Griffiths and Adele Jones – provide students at Glyndwr with a range of advice on fees, funding, scholarships and more. They picked up the Region of the Year Award at the National Association of Student Money Advisers Annual Conference, which was held this year in Manchester’s Renaissance Hotel on June 24 and 25.

Alongside her responsibilities at Glyndwr, Emma also sits as NASMA Chairperson for the Wales Region. She said: “We are very happy to win this award alongside our other colleagues from across Wales. We work very closely together and look forward to our regional meetings throughout the year where we can share ideas and best practice.”

And Beryl – who serves as the Wales Policy board member for NASMA – added: “This award was only introduced in 2015 and Wales are the now the only region to have won it twice.

“I am delighted the judges have again acknowledged the dedication and hard work of the advisers in Wales. I am extremely proud to represent the region at board level.

“NASMA are the national organisation which oversees the work which we do as money advisers, and it’s by working together that we can secure the best for our students – both those in Glyndwr University and right across the country.“

Glyndwr’s Student Funding & Money Advice Team work from the University’s Edward Llwyd Centre and are on hand to help students with any queries they have about fees, funding and money advice throughout the year.

The team also attend every Open Day and Postgraduate Open Evening the university holds – to help ensure that prospective students are given the  advice they need to ensure they get the funding they deserve while studying at Glyndwr.

Beryl added; “Our team can advise on possible funding for full or part-time study –  and  we also offer financial health checks, which ensure students receive everything they are entitled to during their studies.

“Alongside that, we offer budgeting advice – whether that’s in a  one-to-one meeting or through money-saving tips. All enquiries are treated as strictly confidential and the team have years of experience of advising – and use events like the NASMA conference to make sure we are kept up to date with all the latest information.”
