BUSINESS owners and environmental groups are being invited to help shape the future of green energy in North Wales.
Led by the Welsh Government Energy Service, stakeholders including North Wales Economic Ambition Board, North Wales Mersey Dee Business Council and other pan-Welsh organisations have collaborated to produce a draft energy vision.
The partners are calling for project ideas and opinions on how best to decarbonise the region’s economy to deliver a ‘future energy system’ focused on more sustainable systems and processes, notably around transport and construction.
The outcome will be the North Wales Energy Strategy and Delivery Plan, based on research and feedback from industry experts, the private sector and planning workshops.
Dyfrig Siencyn, chairman of the Ambition Board and leader of Gwynedd County Council, said it is important that a broad range of stakeholders provide their thoughts and support the initiative.
“Energy is a key sector for the North Wales economy and this report will support our ambition to position the region as a UK leader in energy generation and related supply chain investment,” said Cllr Siencyn.
“Renewable energy is also a key programme in the North Wales Growth Deal, so it’s important as many voices as possible feed into it and help reduce our carbon footprint for this and future generations.”
Priority areas include harnessing local low-carbon resources to become a ‘green powerhouse’ and diversify the energy mix; to become a world leader in offshore wind and renewable energy; to accelerate the decarbonisation of North Wales’s housing stock, and to accelerate the shift to low carbon transport.
Ideas and opinions on ways to improve or transform use of electricity, transport and heating are also being encouraged.
